Technical aspects

An airliner pilot explains: how come an aircraft can fly? How is an aircraft constructed? What are the sounds one hears on board and what do they mean? What systems and en back-up systems are available? Includes video film and sound effects.

11.45 – 13.00

Visit to an aircraft

Together with the pilot you visit a real aircraft. You will learn all about the major parts such as flaps, slats and speed breaks. In the cockpit the flight instruments are explained. In the cabin you will learn more about what you experience as a passenger.

13.15– 14.15

Lunch break

14.30 – 15.45

Psycho education

What is fear and how can you learn to overcome it? Review of the anxiety symptoms experienced by the participants. Tips & tricks for the first flight.

15.45 – 16.00

Coffee break

Breathing exercises

Special breathing exercises that can help you to control your fear during the first flight.



Day 2

3 hours before the flight

Briefing

The group feeling is strengthened by discussing each other’s anxieties and expectations. The flight is prepared together with the psychologists.

90 minutes before the flight

Check-in

Together with your fellow participants you check in and proceed to the gate.

Departure time

Outward flight

Flight accompanied by a therapist. Normally a flight of about 90 minutes is chosen.

Between flights

Intermediary evaluation

At the airport of destination there will be about half an hour to prepare the return flight and analyze the anxieties experienced on the outward flight.

Arrival time

Return flight

You return to Brussels. Your therapist is still with you, but you should now be ready to do this on your own.

After the flight
(+/- 1 hour)

Evaluation and debriefing

How did you experience the return flight and what were your problems? Discussion with your therapist and fellow participants, followed by a drink.
